8 Signs of Hidden Depression That You Might Be Experiencing

Depression is a serious disease nowadays. It can be confused with ordinary fatigue, but it also can hide under excessive workaholism or, on the contrary, feigned happiness. Sadness, a lack of initiative, and loss of physical and moral strength are just a few features of this sickness.

Only a doctor can diagnose depression correctly, but you can notice this emotional disorder on your own.

We decided to explore some less obvious symptoms of depression that can help to avoid its negative consequences.

8. Philosophical thoughts

People who suffer from hidden depression usually try to talk about philosophical topics using abstract sentences. “Such things always happen to me,” instead of, “I don’t get enough sleep.” “There is no sense in it,” instead of, “I think I need to use another variant.” As a rule, depressed people like to talk about the meaning of life, and they do it all the time. And their words are often abstract and vague. Psychologists say that the more definite a person’s thoughts are, the more chances they have to be happy.

7. Searching for excuses

Depressed people often use excuses to hide their real desires and sadness. For example, they compose touching stories about why they can’t go to a friend’s birthday party or why they can’t stay for lunch with colleagues. Convincing excuses serve as a cover so as not to bother anyone with your emotional condition.

6. The lack of an adequate reaction

People with depression can interpret a surrounding reality in a different way. They can agree with everyone, stop expressing their opinion and desires, stop noticing insults, or not feel pain even if it’s inevitable: for example, when they lose a relative.

5. Psychosomatic diseases

Being depressed, people usually complain about heart pain, tension in their hands and legs, breathing difficulties, a headache, a toothache, and other symptoms. As a rule, an examination shows that their health is fine. Various painful sensations point to an unstable condition. In turn, pain causes anxiety and tension, forming a vicious circle and making a person suffer from psychosomatic pain.

4. “Mental chewing gum”

In a depressed state, people obsess over certain things. They’re sure that they are searching for answers, but such obsessive thoughts can’t solve their problems. On the contrary, they create the illusion that they are trying to find an answer. It’s easy to notice that your relative or friend suffers from obsessive thoughts: a person is rather brooding, absentminded, speaks about one and the same problem, and doesn’t try to act instead of speaking. We can remember an example from Limitless. Bradley Cooper’s hero was obsessed with thoughts about writing a book and possible success. He plunged into apathy and stress, losing his relatives and friends one by one.

3. Untidy appearance

A depressed state affects a person’s appearance. If a person stops following the rules of hygiene and doesn’t keep their home clean, you have reason to wonder whether everything is OK or not. This applies to people who never used to have problems with neatness.

2. A change in productivity

This is also a bad signal. A person can’t cope with everyday routine tasks, forgets information, often gets tired, and feels a senselessness in their actions. It also can be the opposite, when rather inactive people become workaholics with a tense schedule, trying to collect their achievements. They are trying to escape from their feelings and bring some sense to their life.

1. Ostentatious happiness

People often try to hide their depression behind a positive mood. And, as a rule, they really look like the happiest and most carefree people in the world. They avoid serious conversations and laugh off difficult topics. You can understand and help them only during a long and trusting talk.

How to help people and yourself:

  • You can test yourself with the help of Beck’s Depression Inventory or the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale.
  • If you realize that one of your friends or relatives is depressed, try to talk to them about their health and problems. Offer your help. If a person refuses everything, leave them alone for a while and observe their behavior.
  • Don’t depreciate relatives’ and friends’ problems, and don’t joke. Such phrases as “cheer up,” “stop it,” and “calm down” don’t work here.
  • Help with household duties and routine tasks: depression takes all of a person’s emotional and physical strength.
  • Don’t make a depressed person lead an active lifestyle if they’re not ready.
  • Take pauses in your relationship with a depressed person so as not to adopt their condition.
  • Debunk the myths that it’s not necessary to visit a doctor. Suggest professional help.
  • Be caring. Each smile and perfect post on Instagram can hide serious problems.

Healthy Benefits of Coffee When You Drink It Every Day

Not only does coffee keep a lot of us sane, but it contains so many health benefits that we question why you wouldn’t want to drink it if you don’t already. Of course, it tastes better with a few teaspoons of sugar and cream, but sadly, the benefits come from straight up black, pure coffee. Sugar and cream don’t hurt every now and then, though.

Before we tell you about what happens when you drink coffee every morning when you wake up, we should mention that if you buy coffee, try to buy organic, fair trade when possible. Also, go for pure coffee without added, artificial flavors, as this will lessen the health benefits you get from drinking it.

So, why is coffee good for you, you ask? Well, get ready to feel even better about your coffee addiction when you find out why!

HERE’S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DRINK COFFEE EVERY DAY:

1. IT INCREASES YOUR METABOLISM.

This is probably the number one reason why people drink the stuff, anyway. There’s nothing quite like getting out of bed groggy and unprepared for the work or school day ahead, and then downing a cup of joe and suddenly feeling like an Energizer bunny. While the energy doesn’t last long, it can certainly help us start our day on the right note. Plus, who’s to say you can’t have a refill or two in the afternoon!

Studies have even found that coffee helps increase your metabolism after a workout! A study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology discovered that endurance athletes who had a cup of coffee following exercise had a 66 percent increase in muscle glycogen, which helps the body replace energy quickly after a hard workout.

2. COFFEE INCREASES BRAIN HEALTH.

Where should we start with all the brain benefits? Well, some studies have found that drinking 3-5 cups of coffee per day can decrease the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and dementia by as much as 65% in middle-aged men and women. Other studies have found that a daily cup of joe can decrease the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease by as much as 32-60%.

Also, drinking coffee can inhibit a type of nucleoside in the brain known as adenosine. Adenosine decreases the firing of neurons and the release of beneficial neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine within the brain. Because caffeine blocks adenosine, it therefore increases the “feel-good” chemicals within the brain.

Finally, other studies have found that coffee increases cognitive performance, mood, reaction time, memory, and alertness.

3. IT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD!

A groundbreaking study performed by researchers at the Harvard Public School of Health found that adult men and women who drank two to four cups of caffeinated coffee each day had a 50% lower risk of suicide compared to those who drank decaf coffee or no coffee at all.

In addition, coffee contains many antioxidants and beneficial nutrients such as Vitamins B1, B2, B3, and B5, as well as potassium and manganese.

All the nutrients and comfort you get from drinking a few cups of coffee a day will help you feel happier overall!

4. YOU HAVE A REDUCED RISK OF SKIN CANCER.

A study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute found that older adults who consumed four or more cups of coffee per day had a 20% lower risk of developing malignant melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer in the U.S. Researchers believe that coffee helps to reduce the risk of developing skin cancer because of the many antioxidants and phytochemicals in America’s favorite drink.

5. YOU ALSO DECREASE YOUR RISK OF LIVER CANCER.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the sixth most commonly diagnosed cancer in the world and the third leading cause of cancer deaths. HCC makes up about 90 percent of all liver disease reported.

Just one cup of joe per day may decrease the risk of HCC by 20 percent; two cups by 35 percent, and four or more cups by 50 percent. (The FDA recommends no more than 400 milligrams of coffee daily – or four cups.)

Dr. Peter Hayes, a medical professor at the University of Edinburgh, says, “We have shown coffee reduces cirrhosis and also liver cancer. Coffee has also been reported to reduce the risk of death from many other causes. (In moderation), coffee can be a wonderful, natural medicine.”

6. COFFEE HELPS REDUCE THE RISK OF TYPE 2 DIABETES.

According to a study led by researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health, people who had one more cup of coffee per day than their normal amount over the course of four years had an 11% lower risk of developing Type 2 diabetes compared with those who drank the same amount of coffee as normal. What’s more, the study discovered that those who decreased their coffee consumption by more than one cup per day increased their risk of Type 2 diabetes by 17%.

Now that you’re armed with all this knowledge about the benefits of coffee, we hope you will continue enjoying this delicious, medicinal drink, or get on the bandwagon and start indulging!

Tips To Fight The Hot Weather and Staying Healthy This Summer

June has started , the temperatures has  crossed 40 degree C and everybody is too uncomfortable and  irritated with the scorching heat ,outside. There are many ways to get relief   from this weather and no need to give up and hide yourself inside the house. A heatwave can affect anyone, but people most at risk of health problems during the hot weather include older people, babies and young children, and those with serious chronic conditions. . The normal body temperature is 37 degree C, and if it rises above 40 degree C, it can cause severe health problems, affecting various internal organs such as the kidney and the heart.

It’s mandatory to take extra precautions to protect yourself from the harmful effects of the sun. As the sun is beating down on us, we give you a helping hand to breeze through the summer months without feeling like you will evaporate any second.

  • Avoid Direct Sunlight : Avoid or minimise exposure to sunlight from 10 AM to 3 PM. Those are the peak hours of the sun’s strength. Limit your time in the direct sun to no more than half an hour.

  • Keep living space cool. If you have an air conditioner, use it. Cover windows to keep the sun from shining in. If you don’t have an air conditioner, consider going to a community cooling center. Open windows to let air circulate. At extreme high temperatures, a fan loses its ability to effectively reduce heat-related illness.

  • Dress for the weather:This doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your style, it just means that you need to wear the right clothes for hot days. Bring out your big sunhat, and think loose clothing, light colors, and shorts. Use umbrella, when going out in summers. You can still be a rocking and cool fashionista.

  • Usage of Sunscreen:. When there is extreme heat, there is more than likely extreme sun too, so you need to apply the proper SPF so as to help prevent skin cancer, brown spots, skin discolorations, and premature wrinkles. Sunscreen actually helps your body stay cool. But by using an SPF of at least 30, you are far less likely to burn, and more likely to keep cool for longer. Sunburns decrease the body’s ability to cool itself, which is of course dangerous in hot temperatures. Using SPF 50 is recommended , as you can be outside for that amount of time—fifty minutes—and won’t need to reapply until the fifty-first minute. But, if you do get a sunburn, stay out of the sun and use outrageous amounts of aloe vera.

  • Check Electrolytes : During summers, it is very important for you to maintain your body electrolyte and fluid levels. In order to prevent being attacked by the heat, make sure you drink plenty of water or have something like lemonade , try iced tea, orange juice, or a sports drink. before you step out. They will replace the sodium, potassium, and chloride lost, when you sweat. Adequate amount of salt is important too as it helps in water retention. In fact, you can make an oral rehydrating solution for yourself which should be consumed if you plan to stay outdoors for a long time..

  • Include Citrus Fruits and Seasonal Veggies : One’s diet plays an important role to stay safe from the heat. Avoid eating spicy and fermented foods. Eat light and in smaller portions. Load up on citrus fruits because  vitamin C will help to build your immunity and provide you ,your dose of antioxidants. Include veggies like summer squash, gourds, lettuce and other cooling ingredients in your daily diet.

  • Know how to get cool when you’re too hot. :Besides drinking lots and lots of water or a sports drink, if you find yourself with any heat illness symptoms, get in the shade or indoors ASAP. You should fan your body, remove excessive clothing, and place cool, damp towels or ice packs on your neck, wrists, underarms, and face.

Even hop in a tub full of cool water, or else spray yourself down with a hose. If you are still feeling the heat after 30 minutes, you should talk to your doctor immediately, as it may be possible that you have heat stroke. And heat stroke can be nasty: your body is at 105 degrees, is unable to properly cool itself, and may induce seizures and loss of consciousness.

Wish you all Cool & comfortable Summers!
