Lt Supriya Choudhary is the second woman in India, who has donned the olive uniform to become the first lady from Rajasthan to join the Territorial Army .Lt Shilpy Gargmukh is the first woman to achieve the feat. She gave the credit for her success to the family working in ONGC and her husband Varunasinh Pooni.

She mentioned that meeting with the Honorable President of India & Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army on the occasion of Territorial army day in the year 2017 was a dream come true for her, which would not have been possible without the support of ONGC. She further added that “It is my privilege that I got the opportunity to serve my country by joining the Territorial Army.” She eagerly looks forward to serving the country and feel that more country women should be given such proud opportunity. The courageous women of the country would always be ready to be given golden opportunity.

Choudhary had been working as a scientist at ONGC since 2013. She has also had the privilege of commanding the Republic Day parade at the ONGC Headquarters in Dehradun. She talks of her experience with ONGC , “The exposure at ONGC rejuvenates my spirit and I also feel motivated to apply my scientific & research knowledge in the field of Oil & Gas. As a Scientist, I am working with this great organization from 2013 and this journey has been very enriching for me professionally and personally,”
She hails from the Gokhari village of Alsisar Tehsil in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan and faced her share of hardships as she was the only woman in the training . But, her strong determination and hardwork did not allow toughest of the tough situation to hold her back. For the service of the country, daughter of Gokhari village of the district and Bahu of Hetamsar village has glorified the district. Jhunjhunu district must be proud, the hometown of First Lady Officer Shaheed Lieutenant Kiran Shekhawat and First Lady Fighter Pilot Mohana Singh(she carried on her family tradition of serving in the IAF. Mohana Singh’s grandfather was the Flight Gunner in the Aviation Research Centre.) Lt Supriya Choudhary, is the district’s newest pride, and rightly so!

The Territorial Army works as a unit of the Indian Army. Those who are in the outfit are given rigorous training every year for a specific period. The Territorial Army helps the regular army with static duties, and protects the nation’s shores and arranges air units. Life is tough, from the very start who aspire to join Territorial Army. A strong frame of mind and impeccable self-discipline is required by those who aspire to protect the nation. Lt. Supriya has told women that they will fulfill their dreams by taking complete trust in themselves and proceeding further

Lt Shilpy Gargmukh, who was the first territorial army officer, was inspired by family members in the armed forces and donned the olive green uniform to serve the nation as a combat soldier. Following in her footsteps, Lt Supriya Choudhary has also become the first lady to join the Territorial Army in Rajasthan. Without doubt, joining the army means putting service before self and to dedicate their entire life, serving the nation and its people.

The officer also spoke of the importance of physical fitness for a healthy work culture and credited ONGC for allowing her to maintain physical well-being by providing state-of the art-sports facilities and various platforms to prove their mettle. After joining ONGC, she got ample opportunities to pursue her passions such as playing badminton, lawn tennis & golf, trekking, social activities & by this way organization has groomed her personality too. She said,”It is my pride association with ONGC, that has helped me rise and shine. l wish, ONGC to achieve greater heights in the future and nurture many more individuals like me to realize their true potential.”
Kudos , to this courageous lady territorial Officer. We wish her all the best in her great step to serve the nation wish that following her footsteps, many other ladies will aspire to join Territorial Army and dedicate their lives, protecting the nation.
