A woman is made up of sincerity and serenity; she is serene in the time of adversities and sincere in the face of her responsibilities. She never fails to come in front and fight her way towards the solution. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we have found a new hero Bhasha Mukherjee; with a crown on her head and a stethoscope dangling down her neck, she has won many hearts across the world. The 24-year old won Miss England 2019 Beauty Pageant. Before being crowned, she worked as a Junior Doctor specializing in respiratory medicines. The young Indian origin doctor feels that it would be wrong to still be wearing the crown during the pandemic.

“When you are doing this humanitarian work abroad, you are still expected to put the crown on, get ready…look pretty. I wanted to come back home. I wanted to come and go straight to work. I really wanted to join the task force right away” she said.

Mukherjee, born in Kolkata, moved to Derby, England with her family when she was 9 years old.

“I was a book nerd at school and didn’t think about becoming a doctor. But then, I had an interest in both arts & sciences and medicine is the best mishmash of both of them. That’s why I chose to pursue medicine” she recalls.

She graduated from the University of Nottingham with a degree in Medical Sciences and one in medicine and surgery. Lately when she was on her overseas trip, she learned about the difficulties her former colleagues at Pilgrim Hospital were facing. When duty calls, that is when character counts. Mukherjee realized her duty and overruled her own decision of taking a brave till August. She took a flight back to the UK and showed the world, not all heroes wear capes. She compromised her safe and luxurious lives to serve the people.

“I felt a sense of this is what I have got this degree for and what better time to be a part of this particular sector than now” she explained.

UK (United Kingdom) till now, has reported 22,14,861 Corona Virus cases. 5,64,525 people have recovered while 1,50,948 have lost their lives (numbers as on April 17, 2020). With no vaccination or proper medication, the world is trying to fight the war against Corona. We need more people like Bhasha Mukherjee, who understand the need to fulfill their responsibilities at such times of massive destruction. Bhasha’s gesture has been winning her praises on social media platforms. She is being called a ‘True and Passionate Hero’. If more people like Bhasha Mukherjee would continue coming to the rescue, this worldwide war would become a bit easier.

We bid a salute to this “CORONA WARRIOR”.

Respect the efforts of these Warriors as they are constantly working to save our lives. Stay Home, Stay Safe!
