Women are sharing pictures of their underwear on social media after a 27-year-old man in Ireland was acquitted of raping a 17-year-old girl. During the trial, a defence lawyer held up the teenager’s underwear, saying, “You’ve to look at [how] she was dressed. She was wearing a thong with a lace front.” The pictures are being shared along with #ThisIsNotConsent.

The case sparked public anger in Ireland, where many women objected to the idea of using underwear to imply consent.

Since then, women around the world have been posting pictures of underwear to protest the trial outcome.
